Tramite la dissociazione di oggetti e concetti, l’artificio delle opere in mostra rende la percezione lenta e permanente, generando una strana contraddizione poiché gli stessi concetti e oggetti sono stati frammentati o separati dal loro uso meccanico al fine di poter sostenere uno sguardo più prolungato e attento. Come i paradossi, gli interventi degli artisti hanno la capacità unica di amplificare le contraddizioni, si dichiarano apertamente attraverso la loro con-fusione, in quanto è lo spettatore che deve soffermarsi e pensare a quali potrebbero essere le loro connessioni e i loro sviluppi. Ciò che confonde nelle opere in mostra è il fatto che ci presentano un commento attraverso l’attribuzione di nuove intenzioni, mentre allo stesso tempo ci offrono una diramazione di sensazioni tale da consentirci varie letture, poiché attivano una reazione a catena di riflessioni.
Tali premesse chiamano in causa questioni complesse come il rapporto copia-originale, visto e interpretato dagli artisti come reciprocamente costitutivo tra la cosa e il suo doppio, la cosa e l’ombra. Mettendo continuamente in discussione la logica della rappresentazione, gli artisti propongono ripetizioni, doppi, oggetti e soggetti straniati, che accolgono molteplici realtà al proprio interno o si scompongono, si scollegano e diventano tutto, o qualsiasi altra cosa; alterando in infiniti modi la logica dell’originale e della copia, in modo tale da negare ogni immagine normativa del pensiero ed emanciparlo dall’asservimento ad ogni forma-immagine predefinita.
Foothold è un piccolo project space dedicato alle sperimentazioni contemporanee con un particolare focus sulle giovani generazioni di artisti italiani e internazionali. Partendo dall’idea che sia l’arte a creare dialogo e a instaurare un luogo e non viceversa, foothold sperimenta la possibilità di dare valore al contenuto più che al contenitore. La strategia è semplice, evitare categorie che chiudono o escludono attraverso la riattivazione di uno spazio periferico e anonimo e la sua conversione in dispositivo temporaneo che emana pensiero, in un alloggio provvisorio di prove e tentativi.
Foothold si aggiunge alle due basi operative di Like A Little Disaster: Omphalos a Terlizzi (Ba) e L.A.L.D. space a Torre Santa Susanna (Br).
Their practice investigates the possibilities of giving new purpose to everyday life elements, removing them intentionally from the dominion of automatic perception and making them abstract in order to place those elements and their relationships, uses, connotations on show.
Through dissociation of objects and concepts, the artifice of the works on show makes the perception slow and permanent, generating a strange contradiction because the same concepts and objects are fragmented or separated from their mechanical use, in order to support a closer and lasting gaze. Like paradoxes, the artist’s interventions have the unique ability to amplify contradictions, speaking out through their confusion, so that the viewer must pause and think about what might be their connections and developments. What “confuses” in the exhibition’s works is that they present us a comment through the attribution of new intentions, offering at the same time a branch of sensations allowing various interpretation cause they activate a chain reaction of reflections.
These premises implicate complex issues such as the relation between copy and original, seen and interpreted by the artists as mutually constitutive of the thing and its double, the thing and the shadow. Through a continuous process of calling into question the logic of representation the artists suggest repetitions, “doubles”, estranged objects and subjects that host multiple realities within them or fall apart, disconnected and become whole. This process alters in countless ways the logic of the original and the copy, so as to deny any rulling image of thought and to emancipate it from the enslavement to any form-default image.
Foothold is a small project space dedicated to contemporary experimentations, mainly focused on younger generation of italian and international artists.
Starting from the idea that it is art to establish a dialogue and create a place (not the contrary), foothold tests the possibility to give value and meaning to content more than the container. The strategy is simple: to avoid categories that close and exclude, and reactivate a suburban and anonymous space by improving its conversion into a temporary device that emits thought, in a transitory refuge for attempts and errors.
Foothold joins the other two spaces run by Like A Little Disaster: Omphalos in Terlizzi (Ba) and L.A.L.D. space in Torre Santa Susanna (Br).
